Nāma aparādha

Chanting the holy names with offenses is the most deadly offense against the holy name. It is called nāma-aparādha (offense against the holy name) is the most frightening of all kinds of sins and offenses. If one tries hard to stop committing nāma-aparādha, Sri nama the pure name will manifest very quickly – on 18-01-2020 by Sri Dharmavira Prabhu
As a result of chanting the holy names with offenses many people fall into doubt about the potency of the holy name – on 18-01-2020 by Sri Dharmavira Prabhu
It is essential for a neophyte devotee who is beginning to follow the path of devotional service to observe these ten principles. One should also try to avoid offenses in serving the Lord and in chanting His holy names – in TLC, Chapter 12 by Srila Prabhupada

The elephant may take a very nice bath in the river, but as soon as it comes onto the bank, it throws dirt all over its body. What, then, is the value of its bathing? Similarly, many spiritual practitioners chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra and at the same time commit many forbidden things, thinking that their chanting will counteract their offenses – in NOI 1, Purport by Srila Prabhupada
Don’t do this balancing business, that “Because chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa will wash off all my accounts of sinful activities, so in the morning, from morning to night, let me do all kinds of sinful activities, and at night, at bedtime, let me chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. Then finish” – in Lecture, December 1, 1968, LA: Purport by Srila Prabhupada
By this initiation, by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, your sinful activities will be counteracted, undoubtedly. But don’t commit again. Then it will be the gravest offense – in Lecture, London, August 22, 1971: Purport by Srila Prabhupada
Therefore the devotee should very carefully try to avoid these offenses and chant purely. This does not mean that the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra is sometimes pure and sometimes impure. Rather, the chanter is impure due to material contamination. He has to purify himself so that the holy names will be perfectly effective – in CC Madhya 25.199, Purport Purport by Srila Prabhupada

Guru-kṛpa: So they say, “Then my chanting is useless? So I should stop?” That’s what they say.
Prabhupāda: No, not useless. But just like if you kindle fire and at the same time pour water, it will take long time. To kindle fire, make it dry, keep it dry. Then it will be very quickly successful. So you are committing offenses, at the same time chanting, so by chanting effect, you will come to that stage, but it will take time. If you want to be transferred to the spiritual world quickly, just like if you want to ignite the fire very quickly, you must keep it dry. If you simply put on the wet wood, then the fire will not be very powerful. It will be… It will take time. The fire will be blazing fire. Then it will dry. It will take… Better put dry wood to make it successful. This is the process.

When we avoid that offenses, then it is pure chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. So even if we chant with offenses in the beginning—it cannot be free of offenses—still it will act. Just like you take a lead, iron rod, and keep in touch with the fire. It becomes warm, warmer, warmest, then gradually the iron rod becomes red hot. When it is red hot, then it is fire. You touch that iron rod anywhere, it will burn. The quality of fire is already acquired – Lecture on BG 7.2 — Hyderabad, April 28, 1974
“As long as the external propensity is predominant, one must, without offense and on the strength of saintly association, unfailingly dovetail all one’s propensities in Krishna consciousness – In JDH7, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakura
